  • Cyclones take 10th at nationals, earn region championship to cap season

    From start to finish, the 2018 Cyclone volleyball team surprised and amazed anyone who was unsure of their talents and abilities this season. With only a handful of losses, the Cyclones emerged as the NJCAA Region IV champions and finished 10th at the NJCAA Division II Championship.

    Coming off two big wins at the national tournament, the No. 13 seed Cyclones ran out of juice in their final match with Catawba Valley Community College in the nine-place match final.

    The Cyclones kept their run at nationals alive today in an energetic and nail-biting five-set victory over Carl Sandburg College.

    After coming off a comeback win over Sandburg College earlier in the day, the Cyclones fed off that momentum to earn another five-set victory over North Dakota State College of Science in the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Championship consolation bracket.

    In their opening match at the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Championship, the No. 13 seed Cyclones lost to No. 4 seed South Mountain Community College in four: 20-25, 23-25, 26-24, 14-25.

    These Cyclones are good. In their first Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference of the season (Aug. 29), they knocked out nationally ranked (No. 12) McHenry County College Scots, a consistent threat year-after-year.
