Zielke and Abunaim open nationals competition

Being on the national stage is never easy, especially for first timers. That didn't intimidate Brooke Zielke and Jasmine Abunaim, who started their run at the NJCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship in Tyler, Texas.

Both players had solid moments in this high-level action. At No. 1 singles, Zielke lost her match 3-6, 1-6 to Nicole Barron from Wallace State Community College. Jasmine Abunaim, No. 2 singles, lost 0-6, 1-6 to Mariane Lima from Barton Community College. At No. 1 doubles, they fell 1-6, 2-6 to Laredo Community College.

"There were some good moments during their matches, but this level of play is like nothing we saw during our season. Overall, it was a struggle but they are trying to focus on it being a great learning experience, which is a good attitude to have. Doubles was rough at the beginning, but they had plenty of good moments that included solid serves, decent communication and good movement on the court. When they clicked it was magic to watch," said Head Coach Breanna Vollan.
