Making the wins count

Every win counts for the short tennis season. The women grabbed another 6-3 victory at home last night against the visiting Elgin Community College Spartans in part thanks to some forfeits.

With the Spartans down a few players, the Cyclones were automatically given three wins to start. The other wins came from solid performances at first singles, Brooke Zielke (6-2, 6-3), and second singles, Jasmine Abunaim (6-0, 6-0). Both played mentally strong, making every point count. The duo also continued to solidify their dominance at first doubles with bagels (6-0, 6-0).

Serene Itani lost at third singles (1-6, 1-6) and Audrey Stocklen lost at fourth singles (2-6,2-6) both to tough opponents. The duo also fell at second doubles (0-6, 1-6).

"It's always nice to win, but this match was also a good learning experience for the team. It showed the importance of being mentally sharp and the impact attitude has on the level of play," said head Coach Breanna Vollan. "With only a few matches left, the players are still working really hard and are getting pumped for the regional tournament."
