Cyclones rout Pioneers in quarterfinals

The Cyclones' first game of NJCAA Region IV playoffs yesterday morning was quick and painless as they routed Prairie State College 6-0 to move on to the semifinals.

Moraine Valley was in the control the entire game, scoring within the first 10 minutes. Mairead Ruane scored the hat trick to get her team up 3-0. Brooke Janeczek added one more before halftime. Continuing their dominating ways in the second half, Janeczek and Madi Davis, on a penalty kick, added two more for the win. Patricia Rzadkosz, Yesenia Perez and Jasmine Quezada earned assists.

"Nothing is going to come easy anymore at this point of the season. We were missing three key starters due to injury and we needed some players to step up. They did, and the rest of the team did their job and were able to get a comfortable 6-0 win and move on to the semifinals," said head Coach Al Palar. "Morton will be a tough game for us on Wednesday, especially if we are not healthy. The staff and I are going to have to make sure the players are ready and prepared. It should be a great game."

In the semifinals on Wednesday, Oct. 24, the Cyclones face Morton College at 3 p.m. on their home field.
