Brooke Janeczek seals win in last-second heroics

A few Cyclones became clutch game heroes in this season of close finishes. Brooke Janeczek was the latest star in her team's final season match last night with Oakton Community College that also officially claimed their championship in the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference.

Going into this game, the Cyclones knew the Owls were a talented squad not to take lightly. They had a taste early on when Oakton scored first at the 30-minute mark. The Cyclones were held back by a tough defense despite their efforts. For the first time in a while, Moraine Valley was down and nearly out most of the game.

It wasn't until less than three minutes left that Janeczek was able to get one past the goalie with a pass from Lauren Pikulski to tie things up. As the clock wound down, the Cyclones knew they needed this win to assure their lone status as Skyway champs or else share with Waubonsee Community College. With four seconds to go, Karen Montoya slid the ball to Janeczek who headed in the game winner at the far post.

"It was unbelievable. I knew it would be a tough game, and the field they play at is terrible, but this was an amazing win," said head Coach Al Palar.
