Cyclones take down Braves in quarterfinals

The Cyclones started their playoff run as intensely as they've played all season. The No. 1 seed faced No. 8 seed Black Hawk College in the NJCAA Region IV quarterfinals, coming out ahead 102-45.

Although the final result was a 57-point spread, the Braves came out fighting, keeping the Cyclones, who only held a 21-19 lead after the first quarter, on their toes. That didn't last long as the Cyclones put the game away after a 24-6 second quarter and 30-6 third quarter.

Kate Ruzevich led the scoring with 21 points and a game high 18 rebounds. Hennessey Handy added another triple-double (19 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists). Erin Greenfield (14 points, eight rebounds) and Julia Ruzevich (14 points, eight assists) also contributed.

The Cyclones face Illinois Valley Community College in the Region IV semifinals on March 2, 4 p.m., at Waubonsee Community College.
