Travis hits two homeruns in rout of Pioneers

The Cyclones added another sweep to their record. They had a close 5-4 win before the bats came alive in the 21-6 rout of Prairie State College.

GAME 1
It was a slow lead building for the Cyclones as they battled the Pioneers' pitcher. After Alexandria Palumbo (2-for-2) hit a standup double into the left field fence, Emily Madrigal (3-for-3) crushed an RBI single to center to score the first run of the game in the second inning. Meanwhile Emily Koprowski kept the Pioneers in check at the plate, striking out four. Madrigal drove in Palumbo a second time in the fourth inning on an RBI double to get her team up 2-0. Abbie Wantroba (1-for-3) and Palumbo circled two more runners across the plate off of singles in the fifth before Arianna Andersen (1-for-4) drove in the final run in the sixth from a fielder's choice.

With the Cyclones leading 5-0 in the seventh inning, the Pioneers sprang to life after two outs. A Cyclone fielding error advanced runners before a two-run double and RBI triple gave the Pioneers four runs. But Koprowski forced a fly out to end the run and game.

GAME 2
The winds blowing out helped a pair of homeruns sail out of the field from Danielle Travis (3-for-4, 7 RBIs) and elevate the Cyclones to a decisive victory in the nightcap. The Cyclones grabbed five runs in the first inning from Wantroba's (2-for-4) two-run single, Madrigal's (2-for-2, 4 RBIs) two-run double and a fielding error. However, the Pioneers had a few walks, singles and doubles of their own in the next inning to take a 6-5 lead. That was short-lived as the Cyclones came up to bat and with two outs were able to tack on nine more runs, including an RBI single from Wantroba, a two-run triple from Madrigal, a bloop single from Koprowski (3-for-4), a two-run single from Andersen (1-for-5, 3 RBIs) and the massive three-run homerun from Travis that hit the building just over the outfield fence.

With Ashley Roberts on the mound, she was able to shut down the Pioneers in the third inning and was backed by her teammates scoring seven more runs. A walk, fielding error and two-run single from Emily Manso (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) added a few runs before Roberts was hit by a pitch and another fielding error juiced the bags. With Travis up to bat again, she lined the ball out of centerfield to the hit the building for a grand slam to put her team up 21-6. After that, the Pioneers mustered a few hits, but no runs and the Cyclones were able to end the game after five innings.
