Cyclones take one from Trojans

The Cyclones were able to take one from Triton College in a doubleheader split, also sophomore day.

Moraine Valley won the first outing 2-1 thanks to some lights out pitching from Mariah Martinez. She allowed just two hits and one run, sitting down 10 batters. Donna Booe gave her some support with a two-run triple that scored Angela Abrand and Darcee Nichols.

In the nightcap, the Cyclones out hit the Trojans 12-10 in what was a very close game, but fell short 10-6. The Cyclones took an early lead on a Madi Davis RBI double (1-for-3, RBI). After Triton retook the lead, Moraine Valley was able to tie the score in the fourth when Nichols (3-for-4, 1 run, 2 RBIs) scored Morgan Kaminsky (1-for-4, double, 1 run, RBI) on an RBI single. Nichols gave her team the lead in the bottom of the sixth off a booming triple. Other big hits this game came from Abrand (2-for-4, 1 run, RBI) and Jessica Coyle (3-for-4, 1 run, RBI). However, the Cyclones had one bad inning, where the Trojans scored six runs in the seventh, to undo their lead. Liz McCuan threw six innings, allowing five earned runs and striking out four. Karly Krown pitched in relief, striking out one.

Prior to the start, the Cyclones recognized their sophomores Samantha Stahl, Annabelle Fritz and Natalie Mazzone, who will be moving on after this school year.
