Cyclones split with Scots

After four games tallying 50 collective runs, the Cyclone bats took a break in a split with McHenry County College.

The bats went silent in the first game in the 5-0 loss. Morgan Moran hit a one-out triple in the bottom of the fifth to lead the offense. Mariah Martinez started in the circle allowing just one run through five innings but back tightness sidelined her. Karly Krown relieved her in the sixth when McHenry scored four additional runs, two earned.

The second game saw the Cyclones back to their fiery ways at the plate, winning 10-5. Liz McCuan took the circle and had help from the offense. The Cyclones jumped to a 5-0 lead through the first three innings until the bottom of the third when the Scots scored three and tied the game in the fourth with two unearned runs. Moraine Valley retook the lead for good in the sixth after Angela Abrand singled to open the inning. She was scored on an RBI grounder from Karly Krown. The Cyclones broke open the game in the top of the seventh with four more runs starting with a line out single by Jessica Coyle. The bases were loaded thanks to some errors by the Scots. Pinch runner Natalie Mazzone scored on an error to get her team up 7-5. Donna Booe (2-for-2, 3 RBIs), who had to leave the game earlier after being struck in the ankle by a pitch, returned and lined a single to center to score Morgan Kaminsky and Angela Abrand (3-for-5, 4 runs) to put the Cyclones up 9-5. Krown added another RBI on a ground ball error to plate Davis and make it 10-5. McCuan allowed a couple of baserunners in the bottom of the seventh but eventually shut the door for the win.
