The field was fast, but the two Cyclones held their own at the NJCAA Division I Cross Country Championship in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Despite a flat course without sharp turns, this race offered new challenges for the freshmen, who encountered their largest field of competitors plus altitude and new performance pressures. Even with those factors, Suhayb Froukh (28:40, 216th) and Grant Wright (29:23, 249th) ran well out of 343 runners. One teammate from the women's team raced as well.

"I'm pleased with how the guys ran. They were actually pretty calm before the race. They had a little trouble breathing during the race because of the altitude but handled it well," said Head Coach Dimitri Dimizas. "Their times may not have been where we would have liked, but they gained valuable experience going into next season."
