Despite the wind and a little rain, the Cyclones were finally able to open their season with a strong 6-3 win over McHenry County College.
Sophomore Ali Amer shook off some nerves at No. 1 singles, winning in a three-set match (3-6, 6-1, 10-6). Freshman Matt Bednar also battled through three sets for the win at No. 4 (6-1, 4-6, 10-4). James Coan won a quick two-set match at No. 3 (6-0, 6-0) while Matthew Doyle earned a victory at No. 5 (6-1, 7-5). Ryan O'Connor rounded out the wins in singles play at No. 6 after a two-hour battle, going 7-5, 7-5. The final win came from the No. 2 doubles pair Amer/Coan (6-2, 6-3).
Freshman Aidan Lysouvakan got his first taste of college tennis at No. 2 singles with a hard-fought loss (0-6, 0-6). Bednar and Jakub Zolnik took a tough loss at No. 1 doubles (1-6, 2-6) as did No. 3 duo Martin Gawron and Lucas Skowyra (4-8).
