Big home opener win over Lancers

From the start, the Cyclones took control of the game in their home opener and never looked back in a 3-0 win over College of Lake County.

About 30 seconds into the game the Cyclones attempted to score and nearly did, but the Lancers' keeper was ready to bat it out. Minutes later, the Cyclones earned a penalty kick that sailed wide left of the goal. It wasn't until the 20th minute that Jesus Aguirre (Crete-Monee) was able to slide one past the keeper to put his team up 1-0. After that, the Lancers put on more pressure and took more scoring chances. At the 11:15 mark, the Cyclones were called on a handball in the box, giving the Lancers a penalty kick. That's when Cyclone keeper Sebastian Montesinos (Thornton Fractional North) stepped up and made a huge diving save. He continued shutting out the Lancers for the rest of the game.

Less than five minutes into the second half, the Cyclones earned a penalty kick of their own. Team captain Fernando Barragan (Reavis) easily slid in the second goal as the keeper dove the opposite way. He came up with the Cyclones' third and final goal three minutes later as it hit the top post to bounce in. The Cyclone defense was too much for the Lancers in this shutout victory.
