Three-way Skyway co-championship

Three-way Skyway co-championship

After three years, the Cyclones earned the title of Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference champs, but so did their two rivals.

In a battle for the outright championship, the Cyclones lost their first game of the season last night to Morton College 3-1. It was the last regular season conference game and the Cyclones were still undefeated. The loss saw Moraine Valley, Morton and Waubonsee Community College each with a 6-1 Skyway record and therefore relegated to a three-way split of the championship.

The Cyclones scored first in this matchup thanks to Odunsi Adedolapo (assist by Daniel Kasaggoma), but they couldn't capitalize on additional chances. The Panthers snuck in a tying goal before halftime. These evenly matched teams battled through the deadlock until the Cyclones caused a penalty kick with seven minutes left in the game. Morton scored on that and then a few minutes later to set back the Cyclones.

After playing a few days earlier on a muddy field, the Cyclones were battling fatigue and sore and pulled muscles. They fought hard but ran out of gas, said head Coach TJ Donahue.

Despite this loss, they still earned a championship and have more key games before the all-important region playoffs start Oct. 20.
