From start to finish the Cyclone golf team got better and better, with three guys seeing their lowest round of the year at the NJCAA Region tournament to end the season.
In their biggest and final match of the year—NJCAA Region IV tournament, Oct. 4-6—the Cyclones knew they had to play their best golf to have any shot of competing at nationals. They played their best at Senica’s Oak Ridge Golf Club in LaSalle, Illinois, with three guys seeing their lowest round of the year, among a talented field, finishing eighth overall.
Having the perfect day for a round, the Cyclones played their final Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference match Oct. 1 at the Sportsman’s Country Club in Northbrook. They took fourth with James Goich securing eighth place overall in the conference.
Under colder and windier conditions than the Cyclones have seen this season, they all broke 90 for the first time this season at the 3rd Annual Oak Ridge Classic for 11th place.
On a perfect golfing day yesterday, Cyclones Thomas Rodriguez and James Goich shot some of their best scores of the season to place in the top five finishers.
It was a rough outing Sept. 19 for the Cyclones as they took fourth in their conference tournament on College of Lake County’s course in Pine Meadow Golf Club, Mundelein.
Among a vast, talented field of golfers, Jimmy Goich took fourth place overall in the Cyclones’ second Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference match yesterday at Blackberry Oaks Golf Course.
In their opening conference and home match yesterday, the Cyclones played well, but it wasn’t enough to surpass the competition as they finished fourth.
In golf, any player can step up and make an impact. The 2018 Cyclone team has a roster full of talent that should yield plenty of standout moments this season.
The Cyclone golf team worked through nerves and rainy weather Aug. 24 in their first tournament of the season—Highland “36” Tournament in Freeport—in preparation for the start of conference play this week.
