Moving on to semis

The Cyclones are moving on to the Region IV semifinals after a 97-76 victory over the visiting Kishwaukee College Kougars.

The first time these two teams met in November, the Cyclones suffered a loss in overtime. Last night, in a potentially season-ending quarterfinal game, the Cyclones had the upper hand.

For most of the game, the Cyclones held a slight lead. The matchup was close until about 10 minutes left in the second half. Lawrence Pointer (10 points) sparked a big run with two three-pointers to give his team a surge. Helping him throughout the victory were Maurice Chambers (25 points, five assists, two blocks), Michael Drynan (17 points, 12 rebounds, seven blocks), Cortez King (14 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks), Jalen Hughes (11 points) and Elijah Ward (10 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks).

The No. 2 seeded Cyclones have a tough match in the semifinals against No. 3 seed Milwaukee Area Technical College. They haven't faced each other yet this season, and the Cyclones will have a lot of work ahead to defeat the No. 16 team in the nation. The two face off Sunday, March 3, 2 p.m. at Waubonsee Community College.
