Cyclones sweep Triton Tournament

The Cyclones looked strong in their opening season games at the Triton Tournament (Nov. 2-3), winning both outings.

They faced Daley College and held a consistent lead from the start, ultimately winning 87-72. Going out strong defensively in the first half, the Cyclones led by as much as 28 and were up 48-26 at halftime. The offense grew colder in the second half, and the Bulldogs were able to narrow the gap with some timely free throws. However, freshman Jalen Hughes proved too much for Daley to get closer than 13. He finished with 24 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Lawrence Pointer banked 16 points, and Cortez King finished with 13 points and seven rebounds.

Their second game was a decisive 102-77 victory over Malcolm X College. Taking control early, the Cyclones jumped to an 8-0 start and never looked back. The Hawks were no match for a clicking Cyclone squad. King led with 24 points, six rebounds and two blocks while Pointer had 22 points. Elijah Ward added 13 points and six rebounds. Maurice Chambers chipped in 11 points.
