Mike Kane returns as head baseball coach

After a brief departure, Mike Kane has returned as head coach of the Cyclones baseball program.

This is his third stint coaching baseball at Moraine Valley. He was the head coach from 2014 to 2016 before leaving for family reasons and was an assistant from 1987 to 1988. Kane is happy to lead the Cyclones again.

"I love being back, and I'm excited. As soon as I heard the job was open, I knew this is where I wanted to be," he said. "Even when I was gone, I've always kept my eye on what's been going on with the baseball team here."

Kane has coached college baseball for nine years. His resume includes head junior varsity coach at Lewis University, an assistant at Roosevelt University and assistant at Prairie State College.

In the early 1980s, Kane spent some time in the minor leagues as a third baseman. He was a second-round draft pick out of Truman College by the Red Sox and played two seasons in the Boston organization in Class A before a knee injury sidelined him.

When not working, Kane still plays baseball in two 50 and over leagues and also gives hitting lessons. But he'll stay busy when the Cyclones' season starts in March.
