Renken reels in Scots, but offense falls flat

The Cyclones just couldn't find their groove against McHenry County College today, losing both games to the Scots.

The Scots fired up their offense in the first inning, but the Cyclones evened things up at two in the top of the second after Stephen Insley doubled on the first pitch, scoring the only two runs of the game. It was really two big innings that put this game out of reach. McHenry scored five runs in the third and fifth innings, while the Cyclones struggled to get their offense going in the 14-2 loss.

Brendan Gill took the loss for Moraine Valley. The righthander lasted three innings, allowing seven hits and seven runs while striking out three. Anthony Cappelletti went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the offense.

Brett Renken had a solid outing on the mound this game, going six innings, allowing just four runs on eight hits and striking out eight. Cyclone offense, however, was subdued, not scoring until the seventh inning in this 4-2 loss. The Scots were only able to muster one in the second, two in the third and one more in the fourth. Moraine Valley tallied six hits with Alex Martinez and Christopher Villafuerte collecting two each.
