Big hits yield a sweep

Jake Peterka and Thomas Moran were the heroes thanks to key hits when the Cyclones swept Illinois Valley Community College 3-2 and 6-3.

Moran started the scoring in the first inning with an RBI ground out. Kyel Alexander added another run to see his team go up 2-0 in the second. Illinois Valley wouldn't go down without a fight, putting two on the board in the fourth inning. That tie continued as Michael Dudek shut down the Eagles in his two innings of work. It wasn't until the bottom of the eighth when Peterka tripled on the first pitch to score the go ahead run.

The nightcap included some more excitement with another late-inning tie. Moran got his team on the board again in the first inning with a triple, but by the third inning the teams were deadlocked at two. William Curtis drew a walk in the bottom of the fifth to tie the score again at three before Moran doubled in the three runs in the sixth inning for the win. Jeremy Urdiales led the victory on the bump, holding the Eagles scoreless on two hits. Ryan Czajowski started the game, going five innings allowing three runs on four hits and striking out five. Robert Keating recorded the last three outs to earn the save.
