It’s hard to find a more decorated, accomplished athletic director (AD) than the “Finn-tastic” Bill Finn; and his contributions to Moraine Valley have brought Athletics to another level. His knowledge of the college’s sports history, along with his sly wit, will be missed when he retires June 30.
The Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) recognized 29 students as 2022-23 All-Academic Athletes of the Year while 21 freshmen were named All-Conference Freshmen Academic Athletes of the Year.
Another athletic season has gone by in a flash, and several Cyclone athletes are moving on. Some will graduate, transfer and continue competing in their sport while others will focus more on school at the next level. They’ve all positively impacted Moraine Valley Athletics and will be missed.
For the last few years, Yunis Halim wasn’t interested in playing baseball anymore unless it was for a serious reason. Then he was asked to join the Palestinian team to compete in the West Asia Cup.
Four talented athletes and a successful volleyball team was the latest group inducted into the Moraine Valley Athletics Hall of Fame. The fifth class of inductees includes a golfer, softball player, tennis coach/player, runner and the 1980 volleyball team.
Returning to his roots, Richaun Holmes, Moraine Valley alumnus and NBA player on the Sacramento Kings, hosted his Stay22uned basketball clinic in the campus gym on Aug. 20.
The summer always feels long when the Cyclones are anxious to get back to games, matches and races. All seven fall teams are ready to roll starting Aug. 19.
Patrick Hannigan had plenty of good times while attending school and playing soccer at Moraine Valley. He also had the honor of renaming the college mascot to the Cyclones.
The NJCAA recognized 22 Moraine Valley student-athletes with the 2021-22 All-Academic Team Award while the men's tennis team earned Academic Team of the Year.
