Q & A with Geoff Davis

One staple of being student-athletes at Moraine Valley is knowing that for any injuries, pre-game wrap, post-game ice or just a calming voice, they could depend on Geoff Davis, Cyclone athletic trainer. He is always there taking care of, supporting and cheering on the athletes, including from visiting teams. Get to know Geoff.

What is your educational background?
Graduated with a BS in Education, minor in Biology with an emphasis in Athletic Training.

When did you start working at Moraine Valley?
1993.

What is your primary role with the student-athletes?
Athletic training. I am present at all practices and games, and I respond to any medical emergency, evaluate injuries, perform rehabilitation and any injury prevention techniques (bracing, taping).

What is your favorite part of the job?
No. 1: Getting the athletes prepared for competition.
No. 1a: Watching the athletes compete.

What is your least favorite part of the job?
When coaches go over practice time.

What is some advice you want to emphasize to current students and those moving on?
Life is short; eat what you like and exercise...a little.

What is your favorite sport to watch?
If you are asking about sports at Moraine Valley, I really do not have one. I enjoy watching all of our teams play. Sports outside of Moraine Valley, hockey is my favorite. I can watch any team play hockey. GO BLUES!!!

What was your very first job?
First job ever? McDonald's boat (St. Louis had a McDonald's on the river).
Athletic training job? Moraine Valley.

Achievement you are most proud of.
Nancy Blane Guerra award [employee award at Moraine Valley].

What is one item on your bucket list?
Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail.

Your life philosophy.
Hakuna Matata (worry free). 

What actor would play you in a movie?
Gabriel Iglesias, aka Fluffy.

Your biggest pet peeve.
Answering questions. :-)

Who is your hero/idol?
My parents.

Best advice you have received.
Treat people the way you want to be treated.
