The Cyclones’ plan for the 2020-21 season

The Cyclones’ plan for the 2020-21 season

The Cyclones are still having sports in the 2020-21 season but with some alterations.

As of mid-July, the NJCAA released a schedule of which sports can play during what months due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Moraine Valley is adhering to this plan along with its own additional guidelines. This fall, men's and women's cross country can practice and compete in no more than 10 meets; golf can practice and compete, including at nationals in May; and women's tennis can practice and compete, including at nationals in May. These four teams can start practicing today; however, the athletic trainer must do daily screenings of every athlete before a practice or contest.

The other sports that typically compete in the fall – men's and women's soccer and volleyball – were moved to start in the spring. Volleyball would start in January and soccer could practice starting in March. Instead of beginning competition in October, men's and women's basketball also would not officially start until January. Although the NJCAA is allowing a limited amount of practices for these other sports in the fall, Moraine Valley is not for safety reasons. However, all full-time student-athletes can work out in the Health, Fitness & Recreation Center during that time.

All Cyclone student-athletes must have physicals done and all Athletics forms completed this month. Student-athletes will be required to wear masks in the buildings and/or on buses traveling to and from games/matches/meets. They also will be given a bottle of hand sanitizer but will not have access to Athletics locker rooms.

Although this plan is in place, it is fluid and may change at any time. Current or prospective athletes should contact their coach, found on each sports' respective page, or the Athletics Department for more details. The website and Athletics Facebook and Twitter pages will have updates on any changes to the upcoming sports season.

"Everything is constantly changing due to COVID-19, but right now we're moving forward with all our sports in the 2020-21 season per the regulations in place. We'll have cross county, golf and women's tennis this fall with everyone else starting in January," said Bill Finn, Athletics director. "Although we don't know what the future holds, and our typical sports season will look different, we're doing all we can to assure the safety of our student-athletes and Athletics staff while keeping the love of sports and competition alive."
